In Kenya, the Institute has reopened following a thorough inspection by County Health Officials. Only 35 of the 80 students attending before the closure could however be readmitted in line with the safety measures adopted. In Uganda, the school is scheduled to reopen in January 2021.

March 2019: Students in Uganda are making an impact in local communities
The media and performing classes are among the pioneer courses at HOPE VTI Uganda. In 2019, the students under these courses decided to use the knowledge they have acquired to impact their local communities. They got involved in different activities both within the Institute and in their community. They supported in cleaning the Kireka market as part of their community initiative. The students have a drama club which they use to perform at traditional marriages and wedding functions. The media class on the other hand produced short films in the local language to create awareness in their communities on different topics.

February 2018: Launch of Fashion & Textile design course
The Fashion and textiles design course was introduced to HOPE VTI Uganda. At the launch of the course, the Youth Leader for Namugongo Division; Dumba Ali said. “Fashion and Textiles design is such an important vocational skill especially for the girl child. This is a vocational skill that students can take with them to meet the current demands in their communities. I am grateful to HOPE VTI Uganda for introducing such an important course”. The clothing industry in Uganda is very underdeveloped. Instead of producing our own fabrics and having our own production factories, the majority of Ugandans wear second hand cheap items of clothing which are imported ready-made into the country in large quantities. Other technical schools deal with this problem by offering Tailoring as a course.
At Hope VTI Uganda, we believe if students specialize in making items of high quality they could earn money and at the same time make the Institute sustainable. Photo: Students in HOPE-VTI Uganda Fashion & Textile design course
